Will Davis signs with University of Texas at Tyler track program

Will Davis, joined by members of his family, signed on Friday at Marshall County High School to continue his track career at the University of Texas at Tyler.

Will Davis signed on Friday to continue his track and field career at the University of Texas at Tyler. UT Tyler is a member of the Lone Star Conference and a member of NCAA’s Division II. He will compete for Head Coach David Kaiser, under the guidance of Nick Anthony.

Will has been a member of the Marshals track and field team for five years, specializing in sprints but has transitioned to middle distance, focusing on the 400 meters. Last season, Will helped solidify the team’s third place finish at the KHSAA State Track and Field Championships. He won the 400 meters and was a part of the first place 4 x 400 meter relay team at the state meet.

“Will is our second guy to commit this season and I know he will take full advantage of the opportunity and undoubtedly continue his success at UTT”, said Head Coach Andrew Johnston. “I could not be more proud. Will embodies what it means to be a student athlete. He is currently ranked # in this senior class and led off in the 400 last week running the second fastest time currently in the state. He’s determined, selfless, respectful and highly motivated in the classroom and on the track. Will runs for the guys around him and refuses to accept defeat or complacency. He is a tireless worker and dedicated to his craft. UT Tyler will be better for adding him to their roster.”

Will thanks those who have helped him along the way including Coach Johnston, former assistant coach Chuck Gullo, his current teammates and former teammate Isaiah Kirby and most importantly, his mother Becky Travelstead.

“Will’s contributions to the program have been outstanding while at Marshall County High School but he is not finished yet”, said Johnston. “We expect huge things from him this upcoming senior season. If the off-season work is any indication, we know he will have a tremendous year. We are beyond proud of what Will has done and will do.”

Johnston added, “Our goal here at Marshall County track is to ‘leave your mark’ and there isn’t any doubt the impact Will has had on this team.”
