Win and move on – that’s all that matters in post-season play and the Lady Marshals did just that with Saturday’s 56-20 opening round win over Hickman County in the Region 1 Tournament.
They advance to Thursday’s 7:30 semi-final game against McCracken County who beat Mayfield 64-14. Graves County beat Paducah Tilghman 69-39 and Calloway County beat Carlisle County 52-49 to advance to the 6:00 semi-final.
Skylar Waller led the Lady Marshals in scoring with 18 points and had eight steals. Halle Langhi scored 11 points and was 4-for-4 at the free throw line. Jada Driver had 10 points and hit two 3-pointers.
The lead was 22-6 at the end of the first quarter behind eight points from Driver and seven by Langhi. Hickman County’s six points came on two 3-pointers by Justice Midyett and Bayleigh Basch.
Waller scored six of her 10 first half points in the second quarter that included two straight steals and lay ins at the other end. They held Hickman County to one field goal in the second quarter and the lead was 34-9 at halftime.
Mia Teague opened the second half scoring and the next two baskets for the Lady Marshals came from Waller for a 40-11 lead and they were up by 32 going into the fourth quarter.
Nine points in the final frame came from Chevelle Henson with three free throws, a bucket by Langhi, free throw from Georgia Hall and a 3-pointer by Neely Northcott to wrap things up.
They will have to put together their best four quarters of the season on Thursday against #2 ranked McCracken County (29-1). The Lady Marshals lost both regular season games against the Lady Mustangs.
