On April 28, 2024, at approximately 3:40 AM, Kentucky State Police Post 1 Dispatch advised Graves County Sheriff’s Office Deputies that the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office was currently in a pursuit of a dark colored passenger car southbound on US 45 approaching the Graves County line. Deputy Tyler Crane, Deputy Larry Jones and Deputy Austin Ramage responded to US 45 North to attempt to help stop the fleeing vehicle.
Deputy Jones was able to place Stop Sticks in the southbound lanes of US 45 near Vaughn Road in an attempt to slow or stop the fleeing vehicle. Deputy Jones was able to successfully deploy his stop sticks, leading to the fleeing vehicle hitting them and deflating both front tires. The suspect continued to flee from law enforcement, southbound on US 45 when Deputy Ramage and Deputy Crane picked up the pursuit. The suspect lost control of the vehicle near US 45 and KY 1241, stopping the vehicle in the median and then fleeing on foot.
After a brief foot chase by Deputy Crane, Deputy Ramage, and Deputes from McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was captured and arrested. The suspect was identified as Donald Sweatt, 22 of Louisville, Kentucky. Sweatt was found to be under the influence. The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office took custody of Sweatt and Mayfield/Graves County EMS personal were called to the scene at the suspect’s request. Sweatt was later transported by EMS to Mercy Health in Paducah.
Sweatt was later lodged in the McCracken County Jail on the following charges out of Graves County; Fleeing and Evading Police 1st Degree – Motor Vehicle, Fleeing and Evading Police 1st Degree on Foot, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence 1st Offense, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest and several traffic charges.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office also had numerous charges on Sweatt.
