Marshall County track teams hosted a meet last Thursday then traveled to the Apollo Invitational on Saturday for a couple of final tune-ups before next week’s Class 3A Region 1 meet. Marshall County will host regionals on Tuesday, May 21.
Thursday’s meet at Marshall County consisted of teams from Calloway, Graves, CCA, Livingston and Murray. The Marshals and Lady Marshals participated in limited events but still came away with 10 first place results and 41 top fives’s in the events that were scored.
Five first place finishes for the boys’ team came from Tyler Orlandi in the 100 meters (11.23), Sam Morgan in the 200 meters (23.42), Zander Maxlow in the 400 meters (50.92), Kobey Yates in the 1600 meters (4:29.74) and Jeremy Jaco in the 300 meter hurdles (42.18).
Five individual first place finishes were earned by the girls’ team from Allie Burkeen in the 100 meters (13.36), Izzy Washburn in the 200 meters (27.56) and triple jump (31-09), Eden Sandlin in the 400 meters (1:04.61) and Bailey Allred in the discus (98-09).

The Apollo Invitational on Saturday in Owensboro featured 28 teams. The Lady Marshals earned 13 top 10’s and the Marshals picked up 10 top 10’s. Relay teams did not compete in the Apollo Invitational or Thursday’s meet at Marshall County.
Addison Lyles won the varsity mile (5:20.77) and Braelyn Spalding won the freshman mile (6:05.81) for the top results for the girls at Apollo. More top results came from Izzy Washburn with third in triple jump (32-1.5), Anne Marie Petter took third in pole vault (8-0), Ava Sutherland placed third in the freshman mile (6:18.37) and Bailey Allred was third in shot put (32-6).
The boys team picked up three individual first place finishes. Owen Futrell won the 800 meters (2:02.55), Jordan Clapp won triple jump (42-11.75) and Deegan Croley claimed the shot put (54-6.25).
Added to his first place in shot, Croley took second in discus (150-9). Three top five finishes came from Cade Sorrells with fifth in the 400 meters (52.75), Austin Lyles with fifth in the freshman mile (5:11.52) and Jeremy Jaco was fifth in the 300 meter hurdles (42.55).
Presley Gallimore competed in the 400 and 200 meters on Saturday at the MilesplitKy Bluegrass Games in Winchester. She took first and set a new state mark in the 400 meters with 57.01 and took third in the 200 meters in 26.46.
