Marshall County hosted the Area 1 Championships on Saturday and the host school came away with wins among both the girls and boys teams. The Marshals turned in 13 top three performances and the Lady Marshals placed top three in 10 events.
Five first place finishes for the girls teams came from Leah Vincek in the 800 meters, Laney Evans in pole vault, Bailey Allred in shot and both the 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relays teams.
Six first place results were recorded for the boys team. Cade Flatt won the 200 and 400 meters, Ethan McCarty won the 800 meters, Ben Fiser placed first in shot and the 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relay teams claimed first.
Six new meet records were set on Saturday, three by Marshall County athletes Cade Flatt in both the 200 meters (22.01) and 400 meters (46.89) along with Ben Fiser in shot (55:08). Paducah Tilghman’s Luke Birdsong set a new meet record in the 100 meters (10.69), Caleb Joyce of McCracken County in pole vault (14-00) and Camden Marshall of Paducah Tilghman in the long jump (21-05.50).
