WILMINGTON, DE – Former Marshall County High School baseball player, Andrew Edwards, is in his third season in the minor leagues with the Kansas City Royals Wilmington Blue Rocks.

Edwards was drafted by Kansas City in the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft in the 19th round and played a year with the Burlington Royals minor league team before heading to Wilmington to play for the Blue Rocks.

The 6’6″ 250 lb. right-hander has pitched 29 innings so far in 2015, giving up 27 hits and 16 runs. In his minors career since 2013, Edwards has pitched 139 innings, given up 149 hits, 76 runs, walked 63, struck out 98 with an ERA of 4.27. Edwards has a record of 5-12 in relief in his minors career and has had to deal with an ankle injury this season, spending some time on the inactive list.

As a player at Marshall County, Edwards earned all-district and all-region honors and was a key component in the 2009 Marshals 30-5 season, winning district and regional titles under Coach Don Bock and advancing to the state tournament, losing to eventual state champion Lexington Catholic.

Edwards signed with Rend Lake College following high school, starting both years and earning all-region honors there as well in his last year before signing with Western Kentucky University.

During his 2013 senior season at WKU, Edwards worked a team high 80.2 innings, struck out 75 (also a team high) with an ERA of 4.69. In his junior season for the Hilltoppers, he led the Sun Belt Conference with more wins than any league pitcher with a 6-2 mark in conference games.
