Marshals riding four-game win streak after sweep over Murray

Last Friday’s win over Calloway County kicked off a four-game win streak for the Marshals. Saturday, they beat Caldwell County 3-1 and followed it up with a district sweep over Murray. They won 12-2 at Murray on Tuesday and beat the Tigers 6-4 on Thursday at home to improve to 11-13 and 3-1 in the district.

In Saturday’s 3-1 win at Caldwell County (19-6), the Marshals tallied 10 hits led by Reese Oakley with two hits and a two-run homer in the top of the third. Alex Staples had two hits including a home run in his first appearance at the plate in the top of the first inning.  Gavin Clark and Kannon Dunn also collected two hits each.

Caldwell County’s Carter Whittington hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third for their only run of the game.

The win went to Thomas Bagby who gave up six hits and one run over four innings while striking out three.

Gavin Clark earned the 12-2 win over Murray on Tuesday. The senior gave up eight hits, 1 earned of two runs, striking out three over seven innings.

Preston Holman went 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs in their 12-2 win over Murray on Tuesday. Holman homered in the third inning to give the Marshals a 4-1 lead and his three-run home run in the top of the seventh put them on top 12-1.

Following Holman’s big night at the plate, Reese Oakley finished with two hits and drove in the Marshals ninth run in the top of the seventh. Gavin Clark hit a two-run triple in the top of the sixth, Jace Driver brought a run in on a double in the top of the fifth and Chase Shelton had two hits including a double.

Murray’s two runs were scored on an error in the third inning and single hit by Cody Garner in the seventh.

Gavin Clark pitched a complete game to pick up the win, giving up eight hits, one earned of two runs, walked two and striking out three.

Preston Holman knocked two over the fence in Tuesday’s 12-2 win over Murray. Holman hit a solo home run in the third inning and a three-run homer in the seventh.

The Marshals earned the regular season sweep over Murray (9-11) on Thursday. The 6-4 win came on seven hits fueled by a five run fourth inning after trailing 3-1.

For the second time in three games, Alex Staples hit a home run in the first inning, putting them on the board after trailing 2-0. Murray’s Abram McNutt doubled in the first inning driving in the two runs.

The five runs in the fourth began on a walk by Gavin Clark and Maddox Cope reached on an error. Both scored on a single by Kannon Dunn and an error. Chase Shelton drew a walk to load the bases and Cope scored on a single by Clayton Wyatt to tie the game at 3-3. A double by Reese Oakley cleared the bases to put the Marshals up 6-3.

Murray’s final run came in the seventh off a single hit by Dylan Jennings.

Oakley started the game for the Marshals, striking out five, giving up five hits and three runs over the first three innings. Thomas Bagby got the win, striking out three while giving up one hit and no runs over the next three innings.
