The Race to the Canal, a point-to-point cross-country mountain bike event at the Land Between the Lakes, has been added to the calendar for the Kentucky Outdoor Adventure Games.

The games are a series of 13 competitive events in various locations around the Commonwealth. They include fishing tournaments, archery, paddling, mountain biking and other activities.

“The varied events featured in the Kentucky Outdoor Adventure Games will showcase outdoor recreation venues and events that promote good health and adventure tourism in Kentucky,’’ first lady Jane Beshear said in announcing this year’s schedule of events Tuesday in Frankfort.

“These events represent both the quality and quantity of outdoor adventure opportunities available throughout Kentucky,” Elaine Wilson, director of the Office of Adventure Tourism, said in a news release. “From eastern Kentucky to western Kentucky and all points in-between, there are numerous locations to experience the vast natural resources Kentucky has to offer. We hope these events will inspire Kentuckians to get out and try new adventures or visit a new place.”

This year’s Race to the Canal is the seventh edition of the event, first run in 2007 and contested each year since then except 2010 and 2013.

Another event in this area will be the Rayovac FLW Series Championship bass fishing tournament Oct. 29-31 on the Ohio River in Paducah. FLW is headquartered in Benton.

Promoters and partners in the Games are the Kentucky Sports Authority, the Office of Adventure Tourism and the Kentucky State Parks and the Bluegrass Sports Commission.
