Lady Marshals win both games at National Monument Hoopfest

The Lady Marshals enjoyed sight-seeing in our nation’s capital while there for games in the National Monument Hoopfest at Woodrow Wilson High School.

The Lady Marshals played two games Saturday and Sunday in The Grind Session’s National Monument Hoopfest in Washington, D.C. The team visited many of our nation’s treasured monuments and then focused on basketball, coming away with wins in both games 53-52 over Woodrow Wilson and 85-50 over Takoma Academy (MD).

In their Saturday game against Hoopfest host Woodrow Wilson, the Lady Marshals led 12-5 at the end of the first half but it was a much tighter game near the end. They led by five at halftime and stretched it back out to a 10 point lead going into the fourth quarter where Woodrow Wilson poured it on, out-scoring the Lady Marshals 20-11 but they held on to win by one. Cayson Conner led with 13 points earning Most Valuable Player honors. Woodrow Wilson was led by two players with 17 points, Tara Cousins and Edmee Brown-Egue.

Sunday’s game against Takoma Academy (MD), the Lady Marshals took control early with a 26-9 first quarter lead on their way to win by 35 points. Conner led with 15 points while Jade Berryman scored half of the points for Takoma Academy with 25. Tera Colson earned MVP honors with eight points and eight assists.

Marshall County (7-1) will host the Lady Marshal Holiday Classic Dec. 20-22. The Lady Marshals will play three games Thursday at 1:00 against Caldwell County, Friday at noon against Dyer County (TN) and Saturday at 10:00 am against Washington County.
