The Marshall County Public Library has been recognized by United Way of Western Kentucky as Nonprofit Supporter of the Year for collaborating with the goal of growth in the community.
The award was presented to the library at United Way’s annual Victory Celebration, which serves as a way to recognize individuals and organizations that have made an impact on United Way and its goal of raising money to improve education, income and health in the community.
“You know a nonprofit is a true collaborator and interested in the very best for the community when they embrace a new nonprofit in town with a ‘we’re so glad you’re here and what can we do to support you?’ mentality,” United Way of Western Kentucky CEO Betsy Burkeen said.
Burkeen said the library has collaborated with United Way from the beginning, offering space to lead EFSP meetings in Marshall County and inviting United Way to educate their employees.
“It was an honor for us to be considered as Nonprofit Supporter of the Year,” Benton Branch Manager Lenisa Jones said. “We think the services they provide for the community are just as important as the work we do. For them to recognize that in us as well just shows the impact they will continue to have as they reach out and expand their organization in Marshall County.”
Library Director Tammy Blackwell said United Way has done so much for Western Kentucky.
“We are so happy to have the United Way as part of our community and are excited to work with them as we try to match people to resources,” Blackwell said. “It’s an honor to be recognized by them.”
