Marshall County’s boys track and field team finished Class 3A Region 1 runner-up at Tuesday’s meet held at Marshall County High School. McCracken County won the team title.
The Marshals posted three first place finishes and four second place which will automatically qualify along with five others among top statewide results for the KHSAA State Track and Field Championships on June 1 at the University of Kentucky.
Three individual regional titles were won by Owen Futrell and Deegan Croley. Futrell took first in the 800 meters in 2:01.13. Croley punched his state ticket in two events taking the win in discus with a distance of 151-3 and shot put with 58-5. Croley set a new school record in shot put and will go into the state meet as the top ranked in that event.
Two individual second place finishes came from Kobey Yates in the 3200 meters, finishing with a time of 10:09.58 and Jordon Clapp in triple jump with a mark of 42-5.
Also going to state is the 4 x 200 relay team which placed second with Cade Sorrells, Tyler Orlandi, Isaac Hodges and Zander Maxlow and set a new school record with a time of 1:30.22. The 4 x 400 relay also punched their state ticket with a second place finish with team members Cade Sorrells, Isaac Reynolds, Isaac Hodges and Zander Maxlow.
Orlandi placed fifth in the 100 meters and broke the school record with 11.08 and that time will qualify him for state in that event as well as a member of the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 relays.
Also qualifying for state from Tuesday’s results is Zander Maxlow’s third place finish in 50.47 in the 400 meters. Jeremy Jaco placed third with a time of 41.76 in the 300 meter hurdles and qualifies for state. Aiden Dunigan’s fourth place throw of 135-4 in discus makes the list and Jordon Clapp’s third place finish in long jump with 20-11 advances.
