Marshall County’s girls track and field team are regional champs for the second straight year. The 10 Class 3A Region 1 schools braved hot temperatures at the meet which was held on Tuesday at Marshall County High School.

On their way to another title, the Lady Marshals turned in seven first place finishes and three second place results which automatically qualifies for the state meet. Several more qualified on time, distance or height from results across the state.

Four individual first place finishes came from Presley Gallimore in the 400 meters (58.44), Addison Lyles in the 3200 meters (11:44.57), Izzy Washburn in pole vault (9-6) and Phoebe Ramsey in shot put (36-10). Ramsey’s throw in shot broke a 40-year-old school record.

Three relays punched their tickets to state with first place finishes. The 4 x 100 team of Allie Burkeen, Izzy Washburn, Chaney Travis and Presley Gallimore took the win. The 4 x 200 placed first with Allie Burkeen, Izzy Washburn, Charleigh Duncan and Presley Gallimore. The 4 x 400 team made up of Jessica Reed, Charleigh Duncan, Eden Sandlin and Presley Gallimore also claimed victory.

Second place finishes came from Jessica Reed in the 800 meters (2:27.83), Bailey Alred in discus (100-6) and the 4 x 800 relay team made up of Addison Lyles, Charleigh Duncan, Eden Sandlin and Jessica Reed.

The Lady Marshals celebrate their second straight Region 1 Class 3A championship.

The impressive performance of the day came from Centre College soccer commit Presley Gallimore. Gallimore currently holds the state’s fastest time in the 400 meters of 57.01 set at the Milesplit Bluegrass Challenge earlier this month. As the anchor leg in the 4 x 100, 4 x 200 and 4 x 400, Gallimore pulled out come-from-behind victories in each of those relays.

Izzy Washburn also had a successful day at regionals, taking first in pole vault, fifth in triple jump and two firsts as a part of the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relay teams.

Non-automatic qualifiers for state from their results at regionals are Delaney Miller who placed third in high jump with 4-8, Bailey Allred placed third in shot with a distance of 33-5, Anne Marie Peffer’s third place jump of 8-0 in pole vault and Audrey Grace Brown with third in discus with 94-10.

The Class 3A KHSAA State Track and Field Championships will take place on June 1 at the University of Kentucky.
