MAYFIELD – A single by Kenslie Cross scored two runs to give the Lady Marshals an early 2-0 lead in their first at-bat against Ballard Memorial in their Region 1 Tournament quarter-final game at Graves County High School.
The Lady Bombers wasted no time taking over the lead in their first at bat scoring five runs on a 2-RBI double by Shelby Amis, an RBI single by Rebekah Hogancamp and a score by Abby Tyson on an error prompting a Marshall County pitching change in the inning from Megan Renfrow to Addie Young.
The Lady Marshals took the lead back with a 4-run 2nd inning coming off a grand slam by Abby Fiessinger for a 6-5 lead.
An RBI single by MacKenzie Harper made it 7-5 in the top of the 3rd inning then a big 6-run 6th inning came on a 3-run homer by Payton Smothers, an RBI single by Addie Young, RBI single by Harper and RBI single from Lexee Miller for a 13-5 lead.
Ballard kept it interesting in the 7th with three runs to cut the lead to 13-8 leaving two runners stranded on base.
The Lady Marshals advance to the semi-final game on Tuesday at 5:30 against McCracken County who downed Carlisle County 12-0. Murray beat Graves County 7-6 and will play Tilghman in the second semi-final after Tilghman’s 6-0 win over Hickman County.
