Marshall County track teams sweep Chuck Gullo Twilight Relays

Ben Fiser earned a first place trifecta – winning shot put, discus and javelin in the Chuck Gullo Twilight Relays. Coming into Friday’s meet, Fiser was ranked first in the state in shot and third in discus.

Marshall County’s track and field teams swept the Chuck Gullo Twilight Relays held Friday at Marshall County High School. The girls edged out Henderson County by nine points to take the win and Murray High placed third. The boys cruised to a win over Mayfield in second and Graves County in third. A total of 13 girls’ teams and 11 boys’ team competed in the meet.

Highlights included a new school record set in the 4 x 400 (3:29.69) by the Marshals. Cade Flatt broke his own record in the 800 meters (1:51.76) which is also the top junior time in the nation. Ben Fiser was a triple winner – taking first in shot put, discus and javelin. The girls 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relay teams ran times that lead the region and many individual PR’s were recorded.

In all, both teams combined for 15 first place finishes and eight second place results.

Tori McCracken cleared 5-00 to take the win in the high jump. McCracken, who will run track and field for Murray State next year, is the two-time defending Class AAA high jump state champion.
