Ramp connections to reopen at US 45, Purchase Parkway

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans to ropen all but one of the ramp connections between the Julian Carroll-Purchase Parkway and US 45-Bypass at the Exit 21 Interchange within in the I-69 Interchnage Reconstruction Project at Mayfield today.

The contractor plans to open additional ramps to improve connections between the Purchase Parkway and US 45 South via the US 45-Bypass in Graves County at the southwest edge of Mayfield. Once paving is completed today, only one ramp connecting the Purchase Parkway and US 45 will remain closed.  The ramp that carries traffic from US 45 northbound to the Purchase Parkway southbound will remain closed with traffic seeking to make that connection able to detour by looping through the KY 80 Exit 22 Overpass.

All other ramps connecting the Purchase Parkway and US 45 via the US 45-Byass are expected to open around 4 p.m. today.  This opening of ramps at the Exit 21 Interchange will reduce the need for trucks and other traffic to travel through Mayfield on US 45-Business.

Motorists should be aware of changes in traffic flow the new traffic configuration will bring to the Purchase Parkway/US 45-Bypass Exit 21 Interchange at Mayfield.

Motorists are reminded that a work zone speed limit with enhanced enforcement remains in place due to the high level of construction activity continuing in this area.

US 45 northbound traffic attempting to access the Purchase Parkway southbound at the Exit 21 Interchange will be required to loop through the KY 80 Exit 22 Interchange to make that connection.  All other ramps are being restored to service today.

This work zone at Mayfield extends along the Purchase Parkway from about the 17 mile marker to about the 23 mile marker.  The project area includes a 55 mph work zone speed limit with an enhanced enforcement presence and double fines for citations.

Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contractor on the $24.1 million reconstruction project aimed at bringing the existing Purchase Parkway/US 45-Bypass Exit 21 Interchange up to current interstate standards.  This is expected to allow Interstate 69 to be extended southward along the parkway sometime next year. The interchange project has a target completion date of July 1.
