Lady Marshals, Marshals pick up wins over Livingston Central

SMITHLAND – Marshall County girl’s and boy’s varsity squads picked up wins on Monday over Livingston Central. The Lady Marshals were led by Hannah Langhi with 30 points and 16 rebounds in their 56-37 win. Matt French led the Marshals in their 50-33 win with 15 points.

The Lady Marshals built a big lead in the first quarter behind 15 points from Langhi to lead 22-9. Both teams scored 12 points in the second quarter, four more from Langhi for Marshall County, four from Lorin Powell and a basket each by Whitnee Miller and Chloe Kerrick to lead 34-21 at halftime.

Livingston Central opened the second half with a 3-pointer to cut the Marshall County lead 10, which would be the only points for either team until just over three minutes left in the third quarter when Langhi scored. Three straight points from the free throw line by Tabby Padon cut the Lady Marshals lead to nine but a three by Miyah Davis would extend it back out to 12, finishing out the quarter up 43-30.

The Lady Marshals went on to out-score the Lady Cardinals 11-7 in the fourth quarter for a 19 point victory and their sixth straight win.

Livingston Central was 13-9 coming into Monday’s game with the Marshals and 5-1 in District 5 games in Region 2, a much improved team from their 7-21 season last year.

The Marshals took an early 9-3 lead with their largest first quarter lead of 10 points coming after a 3-pointer by Bryce Flatt. Livingston’s Braxton Bebout scored the final basket of the quarter to cut the Marshals lead to eight at 20-12.

Houston Harvey opened the second quarter with the Marshals fourth three of the game and a 23-12 lead, going on to lead 33-20 at halftime led by Aaron Reed with 10 first half points.

The Marshals stretched their lead out to 21 points in the third on an 8-0 run behind six points by French for a 41-20 lead on their way to a 45-26 lead going into the final quarter where they were out-scored by two points to win by 17.

The Marshals will play Muhlenberg County (10-12) Tuesday at home with a JV game preceding. The Mustangs will be looking to break their six-game losing streak.
