Marshall County cross country hosts 36th Invitational

DRAFFENVILLE – Just under 700 cross country runners from elementary age to high school competed in the 36th Marshall County High School Cross Country Invitational Saturday. Always a large event, this year teams were especially interested in the meet due to the Marshall County course being the site of Regionals on October 31st.

The girl’s team from Jackson, Missouri, went home with first place honors and the team from Madisonville North Hopkins took the boy’s title in the varsity race. Graves County won the JV girl’s 4k event while the boy’s from James Madison Middle took first.

Chelsea Dunn of Jackson, Missouri, won the girl’s varsity race in 18:42.83, joined by five other teammates who finished in the top 10 on their way to the team title in a field of 175 runners from 14 different teams. Cape Notre Dame, Missouri, placed second, McCracken County third and Marshall County took 12th.

Spring Dolbee crossed in 26th for the top Marshall County girl’s varsity result in 22:00.74. Hadley Pagel placed 60th in 23:52.04 and Valerie Shutt 71st for the top three girl’s results.

Finishing out the Marshall County girl’s results: 86- Jade Ford, 102- Bailey Sandlin, 112- Haley Ford, 113- Sarah Knoth, 115- Breonna Logothetis, 1123- Sarah Thompson, 133- Alisha Compton, 153- Cora Robinson.

Marshall County boys placed seventh in a field of 19 teams and 217 runners. Behind Madisonville North Hopkins, Cape Notre Dame was second and Jackson third.

Webster County’s Mitchael Shelton won the boy’s varsity race in 16:25.81 with the Marshals best finish coming from Jackson Yates in 25th stopping the clock at 18:05.87. Kyle McClain was the second Marshal to cross in 33rd in 18:31.72 and Joseph Reed finished 46th.

Rounding out the rest of the Marshall County finishes: 60- Cole Wyatt, 70- Garrett Fulghman, 77- Jacob Hainaut, 94- Curtis Bradley, 115- Matt Ray, 144- Alex Colburn, 165- Dallyn Turner, 172- Michael Bolen, 195- Austin Bolen.

Marshall County’s JV/Middle girls placed third in their 4k race with Graves County’s Carley Dowdy crossing in first in 16:31.82. Alexia Minter had the best Marshall JV finish in 10th with a time of 17:50.59, Tarryn Story finished 11th in 17:51.39 and Jada Driver 13th, Sydney Reed 42nd, Maggie Edwards 44th and Zoe Short 52nd.

Blake Rigdon of Burns Middle won the boy’s JV/Middle race in 14:47.78. Ethan McCarty finished fifth for Marshall County in 15:04.72 followed by Samuel Lanham in sixth in 15:05.29.  The rest of the JV results came from Mason Cosner- 10th, Darren Jackson- 11th, Christian Cosner- 21st, Thomas McLean- 36th, Ethan Riley- 65th, Caleb Nichols- 89th, Zach Artis- 92nd and Grady Ward- 107th.
