Valentine’s Day will be here soon and Americans will spend some 26 million dollars on our loved ones, with flowers being the top gift. Master Gardener Barbara Ray joined us recently on WCBL’s Coffee Call program. Ray says roses are the top choice for Valentine’s flowers, and she says to help them last longer it’s important to do a couple of things when you receive them. Make a fresh cut on the stem and place the roses into some warm water to help them recover from the shock of being shipped a great distance. Ray says to take off the leaves below water level and to change the water every few days.
