Lady Marshals continue First Region dominance with sixth straight title

The Lady Marshals won their sixth straight Region 1 Championship and 23rd in program history with Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over McCracken County.

After winning their sixth straight District Two title, the Lady Marshals followed it up with a sixth straight First Region title with Wednesday 1-0 win over McCracken County. The win completed a 14-0 sweep for the Lady Marshals this season against regional opponents.

With the program’s 23rd First Region Championship, the Lady Marshals will advance to the state tournament while the season ends for the Lady Mustangs with a record of 16-4.

The Lady Marshals dominated possession most of the night, the backfield rarely letting the ball pass midfield. McCracken County did get off one good shot on goal that was saved by Parker Perry in the first half at just under four minutes.

Two straight fouls on the Lady Marshals gave the Lady Mustangs a couple of free kick opportunities. After the second was saved by Perry, the ball was quickly brought down field by Mia Teague and to Presley Gallimore for the goal with 2:10 to go until halftime.

Controlling the ball in the second half, much like the first, the Lady Marshals took some great shots on goal but goalkeeper Karsyn Allard, the Region 1 Player of the Year, was in the right spot each time for the save. Teague had a shot on goal and a couple of free kicks following fouls while Peyton Lamb had a couple, one saved and one tipped up over the goal by Allard.

A kick on goal by Anna Robertson, another free kick from Teague and Lamb with one on goal that was tapped away were the final close opportunities for the Lady Marshals for a second goal but in the end, the one goal held up for the championship.

They will play the winner of Thursday’s Region 5 championship game between Elizabethtown and Bardstown in the first round of the state tournament.
