A State Champion and six top 10’s for Marshall County track and field

Tori McCracken is the KHSAA Class 3A state high jump champion, successfully defending her state title from her freshman season last year.

Six top 10’s out of 15 events entered was the result of a great day for Marshall County track and field athletes Saturday at the KHSAA Class 3A State Track Meet at the University of Kentucky. The top result of the day came from Tori McCracken who successfully defended her 2018 state title in the high jump. McCracken cleared 5-06 for the win, equaling her personal best and current school record in the event.

Cade Flatt finished second in the 800 meters, just behind senior Luke Spurrier from South Warren. Flatt’s time of 1:53.62 was a new personal best for the incoming sophomore which ranks him first in the nation in the 800 meters in the freshman age group.

The girl’s 4 x 400 relay team placed eighth in 4:11.29. Members of the relay team are Tori McCracken, Leah Vincek, Jordyn Reed and Tori Ford.

Sydney Temple placed 10th in the pole vault, clearing 9-06. Temple was among four other vaulters that cleared 9-06 that finished eighth through 11th. Will Davis finished 10th in the 400 meters with a time of 51.40, a new personal best for him in that event. The final top 10 came from the boy’s 4 x 400 relay team of Sean Janiec, Will Davis, Drew Coleman and Jackson Miller, stopping the clock in 3:31.64.

Justin Wilson finished just outside the top 10 with an 11th place in the triple jump with 41-00.75. Abigail Oakley finished 15th in discus with a throw of 97-04 and Macy Brown placed 17th with 96-02. Also with a 15th place finish, the girl’s 4 x 100 relay, finishing with a time of 51.99. Members of the relay are Hannah Perry, Jordyn Reed, Layne Pea and Charley Pursley.

Bryce Ladd finished 19th in the state in the pole vault with 11-06. Eight cleared 11-06 making up 12th through 19th place. The girl’s 4 x 800 relay team of Carmen Gunn, Emma Smith, Gabbi Lovett and Tori Ford finished 20th in 4:11.29.

Two finished just outside the top 20 in 21st – Emily Colley in shot put with a throw of 30-00.50 and Tori Ford in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.44. Presleigh Jennings placed 24th in the high jump, clearing 4-08, and was among 12 who cleared that height to finish in places 17 through 28.

Graves County’s Sophie Galloway was one of the stand-out performers at the state meet, taking the championship in all three of her events – the long jump (18-03.25), triple jump (40-07) and 100 meter hurdles (14.45). Galloway broke her own state record set in 2018 in the triple jump (38-10). Galloway’s time in the 100 meter hurdles was a new personal best and her 40-07 mark in the triple jump ranks her third in the nation among sophomores.

Maggie Aydt of McCracken County also turned in another top local performance in the Class 3A state meet, placing third in the 3200 meters (11:15.36).

The boy’s team from St. Xavier and the Tate’s Creek girls won the overall team state championships.
