On Friday, June 17, 2022 at approximately 1:54 PM, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a two vehicle, injury collision on KY 303, about four miles south of Mayfield. Deputies arrived on scene and discovered that Judy Howard, 79 of Mayfield, was traveling southbound on KY-303 when she didn’t see a garbage truck from Waste Path Services that was stopped to pick up a resident’s trash. The truck was operated by Ricky Turnbow,46 of Mayfield. Howard attempted to swerve left into the middle of the road to avoid the garbage truck but did not have enough time. Howard struck the rear left side of the garbage truck.
Judy Howard had some cuts and bruises that were sustained during the collision but she was able to walk away with non-life-threatening injuries. Turnbow was not injured in the collision and was able to continue working as his garbage truck only sustained minor damage to the left rear of the vehicle. Both the Northbound and Southbound lanes were shut down for approximately an hour and a half while the scene was being cleared.
Deputy Peyton Jackson investigated this collision and was assisted by Chief Deputy Jeremy Prince, Mayfield Fire & EMS and the Sedalia Fire Department. All parties involved in the collision were restrained by seatbelts.
