Suspect(s): Justin W. Edwards, 31, of South 19th Street, arrested on charges of third-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief
Justin W. Edwards was arrested early Saturday morning on Wayne Sullivan Drive.
Officers responded about 5:20 a.m. Saturday to a break-in at Dollar General, 3300 Irvin Cobb Drive. When they arrived, the officers found a glass front door broken out. Surveillance video showed a white male wearing black clothing breaking into the business. He used old oil filters to break out the glass. Among the items stolen were clothing, cigarettes, beer and a flashlight.
The officers determined the same man used an oil filter to damage the window of the Kroger gas station service desk across the highway from Dollar General. Damage there was estimated at $1,000.
While officers were still processing the burglary scene, other officers located a man dressed in black clothing several blocks away on Wayne Sullivan Drive. In his possession, the officers found the items stolen from Dollar General.
The man, identified as Justin Edwards, was interviewed by detectives and charged with third-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief. He was booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
Edwards was released from jail in less than 24 hours, and was identified walking on Bridge Street at 2:45 a.m. Monday.
