New Hope Road in Marshall County Restricted to 3-ton Load Limit

PADUCAH, KY (Jan. 19, 2021) – –The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has posted a 3-ton weight limit for a culvert on New Hope Road (County Road 1429) in Marshall County County.  The restriction was placed on the culvert as a public safety precaution following an engineering analysis.

The Elender Creek Culvert is near the west end of New Hope Road, just east of the KY 1396/George Clark Road intersection.

Signage indicating the load limit reduction is posted on each side of the culvert.  The 3-ton load limit restricts the culvert to vehicles no heavier than a passenger vehicle or unloaded pickup truck.

During a statewide load-rating analysis of select steel culverts, Transportation Cabinet bridge preservation engineers determined the reduced weight limit was necessary due to insufficient supporting material above the culvert.

KYTC engineers will assist county officials with developing plans to repair, replace, or improve the culvert as soon as possible.

The 3-ton weight limit will remain posted until appropriate improvements are planned and completed.

KYTC engineers will attempt to provide timely updates.

While this culvert is on a county road, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is responsible for inspecting all bridges on public roadways in the state.
