Class of 2020 – Kaycee Kemp

Kaycee Kemp joined the track and field team last year as a junior, making the transition after playing softball the first two years of high school. Kaycee had a successful fall competing with the cross country team and had the top finish for the Marshall County girls at the Class 3A regional meet to help advance the team to the state meet.

This spring, Kaycee was set to compete in the 800 meters, 300 meter hurdles, long jump and the 4 x 800 relay that Coach Cory Westerfield felt would have been a state qualifier. Westerfield said Kaycee was the most improved runner over the past two years and they were still discovering how versatile she could be.

She just missed a state spot in the 300 meter hurdles last season and made the long jump finals at the regional meet with very little experience in that event. She was selected to the Class 3A Second Team in the 300 meter hurdles. According to Westerfield, Kaycee was ahead of schedule this season on her 800 meter goals.
