Closure of James-Sanders Blvd at US 60 in Paducah starting at 6 a.m., CDT, Monday, June 3rd

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans to close James-Sanders Boulevard on the south leg of the intersection with US 60 in the I-24/US 60 Paducah Exit 4 Interchange work Zone starting Monday, June 3, 2019.

The contractor plans to close James-Sanders Blvd on the south leg of the US 60 Intersection starting at 6:00 a.m., CDT, Monday, as part of ongoing construction of the Double Crossover Diamond Interchange along US 60.   James-Sanders Boulevard is expected to remain closed to all traffic at this site for approximately one week.

This closure of the south leg of James-Sanders Blvd is near the Five Star BP Convenience Store,  Panera Bread, Arby’s, and Pear Tree Inn.

Again, this closure of James-Sanders Blvd is expected to be in place for about one week.  Motorists may self-detour through side streets.

As a reminder, this is part of a larger work zone that extends along US 60 from Holt Road at milepoint 10.130 running eastward through the mall shopping area, through the I-24 Paducah Exit 4 Interchange to about the Coleman Road Intersection at milepoint 10.981.  This work zone includes a median barrier wall to restrict left turns to signalized intersections only.

The contractor has been working mainly at night to help minimize traffic disruptions.  However, as construction activities have ramped up, daytime and weekend work has become more common.  Lane restrictions are in place during working hours at various locations along the project. One lane will remain open at all times for each direction of travel. Appropriate signage will be in place to guide motorists.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet asks motorists to be aware of the work zone and to utilize safe driving habits when traveling through the work area.

As part of the construction process, the I-24/US 60 Paducah Exit 4 Interchange will be closed for several weeks this summer starting sometime after the July 4th Independence Holiday.  The contractor and KYTC Engineers are working on a strategy that may shorten the length of the closure.  We anticipate being able to supply a start date for that closure about two weeks in advance, along with a map to assist with motorists with detour routes.

Jim Smith Contracting, of Grand Rivers, Ky., is the prime contractor on this $9,179,425 highway improvement project. Work on the DCD interchange and other improvements are expected to be completed by November.
