Work Zone with Two-Way Traffic on US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge starting Monday, June 3rd

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to restrict traffic to one lane in each direction on the US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge at Aurora starting Monday, June 3, 2019.

The contractor plans to established two-way traffic on the eastbound lanes of the US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake starting around 8:00 a.m., CDT, Monday, to allow the placement of an epoxy urethane waterproofing overlay along the westbound lanes of the bridge deck.

This is a continuation of work that started back in April.

This waterproofing work along the westbound lanes is expected to take about 7 to 9 days to complete.  The contractor will then shift traffic to allow a waterproofing overlay to be placed along the eastbound lanes.  Work along the westbound lanes is also expected to take about 7 to 9 working days to complete.

Again, two-way traffic will be maintained while the contractor is on the bridge.

Motorists should be alert for message boards and appropriate signage as they approach this work zone.  To improve safety in the work zone, the US 68/KY 80 intersection at the west end of the bridge corridor near Kenlake State Resort Park will become a 4-Way Stop for the duration of the project.

Approximately 3,500 vehicles cross the New US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake at Aurora in an average day.

The new $133 million basket handle arch structure was first opened to 2-lane traffic in December 2015 with 4-lane traffic starting in December 2016.  The new bridge serves a river crossing that started with a ferry as early as the 1830s.  The first bridge constructed at the site opened to traffic in 1932.

The US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge is at US 68 Marshall County mile point 28.146 and Trigg County mile point 0.0.  It serves as the western entrance to Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area.

The bridge is at Tennessee River navigation mile point 41.7.
