Hot August Blues kicks off with free show tonight

A long-standing tradition will kick off its 27th year tonight at Kenlake State Resort Park.

The Hot August Blues Festival will begin with a free show at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, on the lawn of the Kenlake Lodge in Aurora.

ScaleHound will open musical entertainment for the evening, according to the event website. The group has performed at such events as Bonnaroo and in shows with the Driveby Truckers. Adam and the H-Bombs will finish out performances for the evening.

Performances and festivities will shift over to the Kenlake amphitheater for remainder of the weekend. Friday’s lineup will feature music from Rip Lee Pryor, 2 Days Wasted, Ivas John and Lew Jetton and 61 South. Gates open on Friday events at 3 p.m.; music begins at 6 p.m.

Saturday offers a full day of entertainment, beginning at noon with Street Corner May. Performances will continue throughout the day with Reggie May, Little Boys Blue, Al Hill, Laurie Jane and the 45s, Big Mike Griffin and Alonzo Pennington. Gates open at 10 a.m. Saturday.

In addition to music, food vendors will be set up near the concert venue.
