Lady Eagles split double-header with St. Mary, improve to 8-7

Abigail Cima over the last four games has hit three singles, a double and home run while picking up five RBI’s.

DRAFFENVILLE – Christian Fellowship’s Lady Eagles softball team is 8-7 and of their 15 games so far this season, 11 have been decided in five innings or less in wins as well as losses and that was the case in their last four with a five inning win over Mayfield, three inning loss to Murray, five inning loss to St. Mary and five inning win over St. Mary in a double header on Tuesday.

In their 12-2 win in five innings over Mayfield on April 25th, the Lady Eagles led 5-0 early that began on three walks to load the bases followed by a two run single by Caitlyn Ivy, RBI single by Abbie Fletcher and two run single by Maddie Ortt.

Five more runs were scored in the top of the fifth on an error, double by Cima, error and single by Ortt. Ortt got the win on the mound allowing four hits, two runs and striking out two.

Against Murray on April 27th, the game ended after the third inning with Murray taking the win 16-1 on 14 hits. Christian Fellowship’s four hits came from Edie Little, Jaycie Jackson, Cima and Ortt.

The Lady Eagles split their double-header against St. Mary Tuesday, losing the first game 11-5 in five innings. CFS scored two runs in the top of the second inning on an error that scored Ashley Kendall and a bases loaded walk by Jackson to tie 2-2 but Murray added four more runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 6-2.

Down 11-2 after four innings, CFS scored three more runs in the top of the fifth on a single by Abbie Fletcher, an error and ground out by Zailey McClain that brought in their final run.

The winning pitcher was Trinity Higgins who allowed four hits, five runs, 0 earned runs and struck out nine. Leading hitters were Hanna Lurtz who was 1/3 with 3 RBIs, Emily Gipson 2/3 with a double and Madison Rupp 1/2 with 2 RBIs.

Cima hit singles in the second and fourth innings and home run in the third to lead the Lady Eagles to a 13-1 win over St. Mary in the second game of their double-header on 12 hits and no errors. Leading 5-1 after two innings, CFS put together an eight run third inning on a single by Howard, ground out, single by Little, Cima’s three run inside the park home run and an error.

The win went to Ortt who allowed six hits, one run, struck out four with no walks.

A double header scheduled for today (Thursday) against Hopkins County Central has been cancelled. They are scheduled to play Fort Campbell at Mike Miller Park Friday at 5:30.
