MURRAY – In Thursday’s 4th District Championship, the Lady Marshals got off to a much better start than their two regular season games against Murray and for three quarters, the outcome was in question until the 4th quarter when the Lady Tigers put up 16 points and held the Lady Marshals to five for a 48-34 win.

The Lady Tigers have won four of the last six 4th District titles and Thursday’s win was their 24th straight this season with their only loss back on December 20th to Mason County by two points.

The first field goal of the game came two and a half minutes in on a 3-pointer by Briley English. Murray scored the next five points from Lily Ramey, Alexis Burpo and Maddie Waldrop to lead 5-3 before a basket by Nikki Fehrenbacher tied the game at 5-5.

A three from Alexandria Mayes put the Lady Tigers up 10-6 with 1:30 to go in the 1st quarter and Murray proceeded to kill the final minute, not getting the shot off.

English banked in a three to open the 2nd quarter followed by a basket from Miyah Davis for an 11-10 Lady Marshal lead. Murray took the lead back on a three by Macey Turley and basket by Maddie Waldrop and would hang on to a slight lead until a three at the buzzer by English tied the game 19-19 at halftime.

Mayes’ 3-pointer put Murray back up by three, a lead they would not relinquish the remainder of the game in a 3rd quarter that ended with technicals on both coaches that sent Turley to the line, missing both, and Fehrenbacher who made both to end the quarter on a 32-29 Murray lead.

Murray began to stretch their lead out in the 4th quarter as the fouls added up for the Lady Marshals with Fehrenbacher quickly picking up her 2nd, 3rd and 4th fouls and Miller and Langhi fouling out.

Down by 10 points with 3:15 left in the game, Kat Howard missed six straight free throw attempts in the pressure situation as the Lady Tigers went on to win by 14.

The Lady Marshals turned the ball over 20 times, 16 of which were steals by the Lady Tigers.
Langhi and Fehrenbacher were both selected to the 4th District All-Tournament Team.
