Marshall County Sheriff’s Report – May 11

sheriffOn May 8,  former Marshall County Head Football coach Ronald E. Barnard was once again arrested on new charges involving a minor. Barnard was charged with possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor (class D felony), promoting a sexual performance by a minor under 18 (class C felony), and unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited activities (class D felony). The new charges stem from an ongoing investigation conducted by Detective Lieutenant Matt Hilbrecht in which the defendant had previously been charged in June of 2014. Further examination of electronic evidence has yielded a new juvenile victim and the additional charges. It is anticipated that the new charges will be presented at the next Grand Jury session on May 14. Due to the victim being a juvenile, no additional information will be released

On May 9, Deputy Nathan Maxlow was traveling east on Hwy 62 and met a vehicle traveling west on Hwy 62 that appeared to be speeding. Deputy Maxlow confirmed with radar that the vehicle was speeding. Radar showed vehicle to be traveling at 92 mph. Deputy Maxlow turned around and activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the vehicle, which then fled from the Deputy. The vehicle was located a short time later at a residence on Old Calvert City Rd in Marshall County. The operator of the vehicle, Rome Norris, 18 years old of Calvert City, admitted that he was operating the vehicle and that he attempted to flee Deputy Maxlow. Norris admitted that he turned off his headlights and turned quickly onto a side road to try to keep from being located.. Norris was arrested and charged with Speeding, Reckless Driving, Wanton Endangerment and Fleeing and Evading Police. Norris was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

For the week of May 4th through May 11th the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following: 8 Traffic Accidents, 1 DUI, 1 Motorist Assist, 10 Burglary/Theft reports, 7 Disturbances, 10 Investigations, 5 Domestic Disturbances, 10 Warrants Served, 18 Civils Attempted, 11 Complaints, 16 Have a Deputy Call and 23 Traffic Stops for a total call volume of 216 calls responded to.
