Lady Marshals 4-1, play three games in Lady Patriot Classic starting today

Sarah Stokes, pictured in the Lady Marshals season opener against Murray, hit an in the park home run and had three RBIs in their 16-1 win over Model in the Lady Titan Classic at Mercer County.

After a loss to Murray in the season opener, the Lady Marshals have won their last four games over Calloway County and a sweep in the Lady Titan Classic at Mercer County over Garrard County, Franklin County and Model.

The KSCA #13 ranked Lady Marshals will play three games over spring break in the Lady Patriot Classic hosted by Lincoln County. They will meet #5 Central Hardin today (Tuesday) at 5:00 and two games on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. against Taylor County and 3:00 versus Allen County-Scottsville.

Last Thursday, against Calloway County, the Lady Marshals survived a three run seventh inning by the Lady Lakers to win 8-7 on 12 hits. Leading at the plate – Sarenna Tomassi hit a double and home run, Charley Pursley a double and two singles and Anna Vassuer had three hits and three RBIs.

Tomassi’s first inning two-out homer gave them a 1-0 lead until Calloway County tied it up in the bottom of the third on a home run by Adison Hicks. A six run top of the fourth for a 7-1 lead came on a single by Madyson Morton, two run grounder by Vassuer, double from Pursley, Tia Thorpe sacrifice and double from Kinley Edwards.

The Lady Lakers added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth and a double by Thorpe in the top of the sixth brought in the eighth run for the Lady Marshals for an 8-3 lead before the three run final at bat for Calloway County cut the winning margin to one.

Thorpe got the win in seven innings of work, allowing six hits, four earned runs and struck out three.

Scoring came in all five innings for the Lady Marshals in their 12-10 win over Garrard County. Five players with two hits each contributed to the 14 hits in the game from Pursley, Tomassi, Edwards, Morton and McKenzie Elkins. Tomassi had three RBI’s and Piercefield had two.

Emily Garland, a freshman, earned the win in three innings, allowing four hits, three runs and struck out three.

Kyla Bell led the Lady Lions with two doubles, a home run and three four RBIs.

Against Franklin County, the Lady Marshals trailed 3-2 going into the third inning but a three run bottom of the third and 10 run fourth inning earned them the 15-3 win.

Tomassi was 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs. The senior brought in the final two runs in the win with a two run inside the park home run in the bottom of the fourth.

Pursley and Edwards were both 3-for-3 at the plate. Pursley hit a double and both recorded three RBIs.

Freshman pitcher Gracelyn Darnall earned the win in three innings, allowing no hits and no runs.

In their final game of the Lady Titan Classic, the Lady Marshals put together 11 runs in the top of the third inning to beat Model 16-1 in five innings on 12 hits. Pursley, Vasseur and Chevelle Henson all had two hits a piece and an inside the park home run was hit by senior Sarah Stokes in the top of the fourth.

Garland earned the five-inning win while allowing four hits, one run and five strike outs.
