Nick Mighell will join Brescia University track and field program

Nick Mighell signed on Friday to continue his track career at Brescia University. He was joined at his signing by his parents Kevin and Samantha, brother Jonathan and Nikolas.

Nick Mighell signed on Friday with the Brescia University men’s track and field program. Under Head Coach Luke Stoffel, Brescia competes in the River States Conference and is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic (NAIA).

Nick has been a member of the Marshall County High School track and field program for three years. As a sophomore, he immediately made an impact in the Marshals third place finish at the 1st Region Class AAA championships, scoring points in both the 4 x 100m and 4 x 200m relay events.

“It’s always an amazing feeling when you have an athlete like Nick make his move to the next level”, Head Coach Andrew Johnston said. “Nick came to us as a two sport sophomore and has embodied what it means to be a student athlete. He is focused, determined, competitive, high motivated and resilient. There are always days out here where we have to trust the kids to be self-motivated and put in the work – especially this season given our current climate. However, I have never had to worry about Nick – he is a tireless worker and has overcome many obstacles. Brescia will be better for adding him to their roster.”

Nick said the coaches and small town atmosphere where the players are genuinely cared for is what drew him to Brescia. He is also a member of the Marshall County soccer team and plans to be a walk-on and vie for a spot on Brescia’s soccer team.

Contributing to Nick’s development as an athlete, past and current MCHS coaches Donnie Heath, BB Blevins, Tyler McKenty, Andrew Johnston, Chuck Gullo and Cory Westerfield in both track and soccer programs.

As a sophomore, Nick earned a spot on the All-Area Class AAA 2nd Team in the 200m.

Coach Johnston said they expect huge things from Nick this spring in his senior season saying, “If the off-season work is any indication, we know he will have a tremendous year. We are beyond proud of what Nick has done and will do. Our goal here at Marshall County track is to “leave your mark” and there isn’t any doubt of the impact Nick has had on this team.”
