Public meeting scheduled on U.S. 60 widening in Ballard County for June 11th in Kevil

PADUCAH, Ky. (June 3, 2019) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has scheduled a public information meeting for Tuesday, June 11 on the proposed reconstruction of U.S. 60 in eastern Ballard County. The public meeting will be held at the Ballard County Economic Center and Industrial Board Office in Kevil from 5-7 p.m., CDT.

KYTC personnel and consultants working on the project will be available to answer questions and accept public comments about proposed improvements.

The project runs along U.S. 60 from the east end of the Humphrey Creek Bridge in Ballard County to just west of KY 1154 in McCracken County. The purpose of the project is to improve mobility and safety for the U.S. 60 corridor in eastern Ballard County.

According to KYTC District 1 Chief Engineer Kyle Poat, the meeting is designed to allow the public to review displays and comment on proposals for the new section of four-lane highway.

“Participants will be able to review alternates currently being considered for design of this new section of U.S. 60 and discuss the project with our engineers, design staff, and consultants,” said Poat. “They can provide comments and suggestions that will help us shape the project as we move forward to eventual construction. We’d like to urge everyone with an interest in the project to attend the public meeting.”

Poat noted that displays and handouts containing a variety of project information will be available for review. Comment sheets will be provided to make it easier for participants to provide input.

“Whether you are a property owner or resident of the project area, or if you are a commuter who regularly drives along this section of U.S. 60 in eastern Ballard County, we need input to help make this a better project for everyone,” Poat said.

The meeting will be conducted in an open format. Interested citizens may attend at any point in the meeting’s duration, no formal presentation will be provided.

While KYTC engineers prefer that citizens attend the public meeting in person, those unable may direct comments and input on the project to the district office at the address below.

Comments will be accepted at the meeting and for a period of 10 days after the public information meeting. All written comments will become a part of the official project record.

For anyone who is unable to attend on June 11, displays will be available for review for 10 days following the meeting at the KYTC District 1 Office, located at 5501 Kentucky Dam Road in Paducah.

All written comments from the public meeting become a part of the official record and may be reviewed by filing an official public information request form.
