Lady Marshals advance to 4th District title game following win over CFS

Marshall County will meet Calloway County on Tuesday in the 4th District Championship after defeating Christian Fellowship 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-15) in the semi-finals on Monday. The Lady Marshals will be going for a fourth straight district title. Their last title game loss was to CFS in 2019.

Calloway County beat Murray 3-2 (25-15, 22-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-4) in Monday’s first semi-final match.

In the first set against the Lady Eagles, a kill by Sarah Bremmerkamp put the Lady Marshals on the board and they took an early 4-0 lead. A 6-1 Lady Marshals lead was wiped out by CFS in part on a kill by Gracie Howard and ace from Rylee Hudson.

The Lady Marshals took a 19-10 lead behind six straight serves from Ayla Holt, then finished out set one 25-13 on four kills by Bremmerkamp and one from Leigha McVickers.

CFS took a 7-3 lead in the second set before a side-out by the Lady Marshals on a kill by Abby Belcher. A kill by Jenna Neal gave the Lady Eagles the serve and a 9-5 lead but it went back to the Lady Marshals on a kill by Bremmerkamp.

Holding the lead, the Lady Eagles went up 18-13 on a kill by Howard before the Lady Marshals chipped away at the deficit and took a 19-18 lead on a kill by Bremmerkamp. Neal with another kill tied it 19-19 for CFS but was followed by a 3-0 run by Marshall County that helped finish out set two 25-21.

Needing a win in set three, CFS jumped out to a 6-2 lead on a successful kill by Howard. Marshall County rallied to tie it up at 6-6 then went up 9-6 fueled by serves from Belcher. CFS kept it close until three straight kills by Bremmerkamp gave the Lady Marshals a 19-14 lead and four more points were scored with Emma Reynolds serving.

Marshall County went on to take set three 25-15 and earn a spot in Tuesday’s 4th District Championship.

The Lady Eagles season ends with a record of 10-17.
