Hummingbird Fest Woodlands Nature Station

Saturday, August 5 & Sunday, August 6 | 10am-4pm

If you love hummingbirds and backyard wildlife, this is the event for you! August brings hundreds and hundreds of hummingbirds through Land Between the Lakes as they migrate south to Central America. You can see as many as 200 of them in a single day at the Nature Station! Join us to celebrate this natural spectacle and watch the backyard beauties as they buzz around the native gardens, fueling up for the next leg of their long journey. Discover how you can create beneficial habitat for many species right in your own backyard! Check out the native plant sale, or the Pollinator Photo Gallery. Enjoy backyard habitat programs and demonstrations all weekend, as well as games and crafts for the kids!

Skirmish at Pine Bluff Homeplace 1850s Working Farm

Saturday, August 19 | 1:30-3:30pm

The Civil War was not jut big battles, it was also many small skirmishes. One such, but little known skirmish happened on a hot August day in 1864. Learn about this tragic between the rivers incident that happened near the Great Western Furnace and discover what happened to a 83rd Illinois Company that was attacked by a greatly outnumbered guerrilla force 150 years ago. Program will be in the theater at the Homeplace.

Hummingbird101 Woodlands Nature Station

Sunday, August 20 | 1-1:45pm

August is the best time to view Nature Station’s hummingbirds as they feed at our freshly filled feeders. Join us for a quick lesson on these little jewels, then step outside into the gardens and watch them in their feeding frenzy!

Pack Your Wagon Homeplace 1850s Working Farm

Saturday, August 26 | 11am-12pm

Settlement of the Land Between the Rivers was a hard life. Come out to the homeplace to see the kinds of things a pioneer would bring with them not only to survive, but also thrive when making a new life for themselves in unsettled territory.

 

Dinner with the Hummingbirds Woodlands Nature Station

August 18 & August 26 | 6-8pm

It’s hummingbird time at Nature Station! What better way to celebrate than to enjoy a catered meal prepared just for you in our beautiful backyard as ruby-throated hummingbirds fill the air! Our backyard sees up to 200 hummingbirds a day, and they all come to feast at our easy-to-watch bird feeders! If you love hummingbirds, you certainly won’t want to miss this! Program includes live music & hummingbird program.
