Marshals pick up district win over Christian Fellowship

Marshall County improved to 16-5 and 2-1 in district games with Tuesday’s 79-49 win over neighboring district foe Christian Fellowship. The Eagles drop to 4-13 and 0-3 in district games.

Alex Staples had the touch for the Marshals in the first quarter, the sophomore hitting three from behind the arc on his way to leading the first quarter scoring with 13 of their 23 points. Andrew Dunning hit a game-opening three for CFS to give the Eagles the early lead, one they held until Staples put the Marshals on top 5-4 on their way to a 23-8 first quarter lead.

Dunning, Jakin Burnett, Brady Fletcher and Elijah Grigg combined for 15 points for CFS in the second quarter to outscore the Marshals by two to cut the lead to 36-23 at halftime. Trey Wall’s five points led the Marshals scoring in the quarter.

The Marshals put the game out of reach in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles by 20 to take a 64-31 lead led by Wade Moore’s 11 points.

Dunning hit two of his four three-pointers of the game in the fourth quarter and Burnett added two to his total of three in the game to lead CFS in their final 18 points. The Marshals scored 15 in the fourth led by Kyzer Phillips with nine on their way to the 30-point win.

Moore and Staples led the Marshals with 17 points each. Dunning had 22 for the Eagles.
