Eagles fall to Lakers in home district contest

Freshman Elijah Grigg led the Eagles with 22 points in Tuesday’s 87-38 district loss to Calloway County.

When a good three-point shooting team takes 36 attempts from behind the arc, a few are going to fall and that they did in Calloway County’s 87-38 district win over Christian Fellowship. Of their 16 threes made, sophomore Eli Finley hit 11 which set a new single game record for the Lakers, breaking the old record of nine.

CFS freshman, Elijah Grigg, opened the game up with a three-pointer but it was followed by a 13-0 run from the Lakers that ended on a basket by Andrew Dunning. Grigg scored the final six points of the quarter for the Eagles and they trailed 29-13.

Six of the Lakers threes came in the second quarter to amass a 57-25 halftime lead. A highlight for the Eagles was a foul on Grigg shooting a three and he sank all three free throws. Grigg scored 18 of his team-leading 22 points in the first half.

Calloway County outscored CFS 40-13 in the second half to pick up their second district win and improve to 16-4. The Eagles fall to 4-10 and 0-2 in district play.
