Lady Marshals among state’s best at All State Championship

Marshall County girls were among the top 15 in state point rankings to compete in the first Kentucky Golf Coaches Association All State Championship in Lexington this past weekend. The points are earned throughout the season at high school invitationals by both teams and individuals.

Along with the top 15 in the state, the top 21 individuals not on teams competed at the University Club of Kentucky. This format gives the top teams and individuals in the state an opportunity to play against the best, something the KHSAA state championship won’t have due to the new format enacted this season that will only advance the winner of each region and the seven top individuals from each region. The 2018 girl’s state champion was Lexington Christian Academy, who was a runner-up in their regional tournament.

The Lady Marshals had a solid showing finishing seventh (+124) in team standings. Savannah Howell had the top finish individually for the Lady Marshals with ninth place (74-78). Other scores were Megan Hertter (82-79) tied for 26th, Kenley Luksic (94-90) tied for 66th and Elsie Riley (102-101) tied for 87th.

Lexington Christian Academy won the team title (+40) and Madison Central was second (+49).

The Lady Marshals will compete in the regional tournament at Paxton Park on Monday September 30th.
