Beloved retired MCSO K-9 passes away

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is saying goodbye to one of its own.

According to MCSO, retired K-9 unit Lacey died at her home Thursday, Nov. 23. Lacey spent the majority of her life working with MCSO and surrounding communities searching and recovering illegal drugs. However, Lacey was also a fixture at local schools and community events, performing demonstrations and making herself a friend to residents.

“She helped to seize numerous pound of illegal drugs from our streets and communities,” the department said in a statement on social media. “She was a valuable asset to the drug unit and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.”

Lacey retired “a couple of years ago,” after her health began to deteriorate. She spent her remaining days at the home of her last two handlers.
