DRAFFENVILLE – Marshall County girls took first and boys second in a meet they hosted on Tuesday with 13 girls teams and 12 boys teams competing. Following the girls first place, second went to McCracken County and third to West Creek. West Creek boys claimed first and third behind Marshall County was Henry County, TN.
Meet highlights included a first and second place finish by Marshall County’s Kelyn Mannon and Kaylie Riley in the 100 meter hurdles. Mannon also took second in the 300 meter hurdles and Sophie Bayer placed third. Jordyn Ray placed third in the 800 meters. Abigail Oakley, Emily Colley and Hannah Langhi captured the top three places in the discus and continued top performances in field events came from Tori McCracken first and Kaylie Riley second in the high jump, Audrey Grizzard first in pole vault, Kirsten Walker first in shot put and Paige Henson first in triple jump.
McCracken County girls took the top four spots in the 1600 meters and first and second in the 400 meters while West Creek dominated the sprints taking first in the 100 meters and first through third in the 200 meters.
Cade Flatt took first and Garrett Fulgham second in a closely contested 800 meters and they were both on the 4 x 800 meter relay team that took first. Flatt, a seventh grader, currently ranks first in the state among middle schoolers in the 400 meters, 800 meters and high jump.
In field events, Bryce Ladd, Caleb Pahl and Garrett Womack took second through fourth in the pole vault, Cameron Thurman won the shot put and Jake McNeely was second in the high jump.
Henry County’s Titus and Silas Winders took first and second in the 1600 meters while West Creek and Henry County combined for the top four spots in both the 100 and 200 meter dash. For the Marshals in distance events, Mason Cosner placed third in the 3200 meters and Jackson Yates fourth in the 1600 meters.
The Area 1 Championships are today (Friday) at Calloway County and the following Saturday, May 13th, Marshall County will host the Region 1 Class 3A Championships.
