Brief Traffic Halt on New US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge at 1 p.m., TODAY

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to temporarily halt
WESTBOUND traffic on the US 68/KY 80 EGGNERS FERRY Bridge for about 20 minutes
starting about 1:00 p.m., CST, TODAY.

The contractor is removing some of the heavy equipment used in construction of the
new bridge over KENTUCKY LAKE during the last two years. The contractor plans to
pull a barge up to the shoreline and offload some equipment to a waiting truck. To
facilitate this equipment move, the contractor anticipates the WESTBOUND lanes of US
68/KY 80 will be temporarily blocked for about 20 minutes starting at approximately
1:00 p.m., CST, Today.

Westbound motorists should be prepared to encounter flaggers controlling traffic at
the site.

Approximately 3,500 vehicles cross the New US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge over
Kentucky Lake at Aurora in an average day.

Johnson Brothers Corporation of Ft. Worth, TX, a Southland Company, is the prime
contractor on the $133 million Eggners Ferry Bridge project. The new basket handle
arch structure was first opened to 2-lane traffic in December 2015. Some minor
finish work continued on the new bridge until December 2016. The new bridge serves
a river crossing that started with a ferry as early as the 1830s. The first bridge
constructed at the site opened to traffic in 1932.

The US 68/KY 80 Eggner’s Ferry Bridge is at US 68 Marshall County mile point 28.146
