Tyree wins, Eaton 5th in Marshall County Invitational golf tournament

CALVERT CITY – McCracken County captured the boy’s title Saturday at the Marshall County Invitational at Calvert City Country Club with a team score of 292. Mayfield placed 2nd (292), Marshall County 3rd (305), Hopkinsville 4th (311) and Calloway County 5th (317).

Lyon County’s Cullen Brown earned medalist honors with a 6-under 66 and rounding out the top five were McCracken County’s Chase Korte (69), Graves County’s Dawson Fowler (71), Mayfield’s Paul Wynstra (72) and Marshall County’s Quinn Eaton (72).

Joining Eaton’s 72, the rest of the Marshals team score came from D.J. Pigg (74), Jay Nimmo (76) and Garrett Howell (83). Also playing for the Marshals at Saturday’s Invitational, Tyler Powell (81), Grant Hackney (83), Drew Puteer (90) and Dyver O’Bryan (102).

Bailey Tyree won the girl’s tournament with an even par 72 and Owensboro’s Ke’Asha Phillips was runner-up with 73.
Murray took the team title shooting 328, Hopkinsville 2nd (331), Marshall County 3rd (348), Madisonville 4th (352), McCracken County 5th (371), Graves County 6th (397) and Owensboro (426).

Joining Tyree in the Lady Marshals team score was Hallie Riley (86), Savannah Howell (94) and Karissa Jordan (96). Also playing Saturday, Kennadi Spraggs (97) and Sydney Phillips (108).

“This tournament had the look and feel of the upcoming regional tournament on September 28th”, Marshals Head Coach Keith Bell said. “Many of these same teams and players will be back in three weeks.  Quinn Eaton, DJ Pigg and Jay Nimmo continued to play consistently well in this tournament.”

Bell said based on the outcome of this tournament, his team will need at least four out of the five positions to post scores in the 70’s.  Saying players that are very capable of posting scores in the 70’s include  Peyton Porter, Garrett Howell, Grant Hackney and Tyler Powell.

“Our players are really working hard with their eyes set on making the state tournament in Bowling Green”, Bell said. “They know what they need to do in order to get there.  The goal is to getting all team members to perform well on September 28th.”
