Marshall County resident Lelia Madge Reising, a member of the Clarks River Chapter DAR, will have her quilt titled “A Mariner’s Compass” displayed during the Historic Center Quilt Exhibit.  This is a Statewide exhibit of Daughters of the American Revolution quilts that are old and new commemorating 75 yrs of Tavern ownership by Kentucky State Daughters of the American Revolution.

Madge chose the Mariner’s Compass because it was a symbol of where she had live at this time of her life.  She has lived in western Kentucky surrounded by the beauty of many creeks, rivers and lakes.  In her home county she is surrounded by the Clarks River, West fork Clarks River, Soldier Creek, Bowie Creek, Tennessee River (Kentucky Lake), Cumberland River (Lake Barkley), Ohio River and the Mississippi River.

A mariner’s compass is a necessity to navigate many waters of the world.  Thus, a mariner’s compass was constructed and quilted Madge to use as a wall hanging in her home to remind her of the beauty of western Kentucky and its waterways.

The quilt will be on display at Duncan Tavern. The exhibit runs from April 1st to September 10th.
