(BENTON, Ky.) — The Marshall County Fiscal Court has called a special meeting for Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. Magistrates are expected to take up a packed agenda covering budget matters, grant agreements, tax settlements, and several board appointments.

Old Business

Court members will open by approving minutes from the May 7 special called meeting and public hearing, along with continued discussion of Holmes Lane, a matter carried over from previous proceedings.

Budget and Financial Matters

Among the most significant items on the agenda is the first reading of Ordinance 2026-04, which sets the county’s operating budget for Fiscal Year 2026–27. The court will also review the Marshall County Health Department’s tax rate, consider the Treasurer’s Report, authorize fund transfers, and approve payment of bills.

Additionally, magistrates will address the Sheriff’s Property Tax Settlement and Sheriff’s Franchise Tax Settlement, routine annual actions that reconcile tax collections between the sheriff’s office and the county.

Grants and Agreements

The court is expected to vote on two grant-related items. A resolution approving a KOHS grant — likely tied to emergency management or public safety — will be considered alongside an agreement related to a Crumb Rubber Grant, which typically funds recycled tire material for use in public facilities or road projects.

Appointments

Magistrates will consider Resolution 2026-02, which deals with library board appointments, as well as additional board appointments across county bodies. The court will also take up the matter of an Animal Shelter student worker position.

Public Hearings and Scheduling

The court plans to vote on rescheduling and setting future Fiscal Court meetings, and will schedule a public hearing on CRA (Community Redevelopment Area) funds, giving residents an opportunity to weigh in on how those dollars are allocated.

Executive Session

The meeting is expected to close with an executive session covering litigation and personnel matters before adjournment. Executive sessions are closed to the public under Kentucky open meetings law when discussion involves pending legal action or individual personnel decisions.

The meeting will be held at the Marshall County Courthouse in Benton, Kentucky. Members of the public are encouraged to attend.
