Kentucky Transportation Cabinet • District 1

PADUCAH, KY (July 5, 2024) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet anticipates ongoing work zone construction and long-term maintenance activities at the following locations will impact traffic in District 1 counties during the week of July 7-13.

More detailed information on these work zones (including maps) can be found on our Facebook page listed below.

I-24 Paving & Rehab 29 to 33mm in Livingston County (COMPLETED)
Lane restrictions on I-24 have been removed from the 29.54mm at the Tennessee River Bridge to the 33.6mm near the Cumberland River Bridge. Some minor finish work will be completed with intermitting lane and shoulder restrictions over the next few weeks. Please see posting below as lane restrictions continue on the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge Rehab Project at the 29mm.

I-24 Tennessee River Bridge at 29mm (UPDATED)
This work zone has two 11-ft lane lanes open in each direction for the July 4th Holiday driving period.   One-lane traffic will return for both eastbound and westbound starting Tuesday, July 9. There is an 8 ft.-6 in. max load width and 13 ft- 6 in. max height restriction, a 55 MPH speed limit, enhanced enforcement, double fines, and a concrete barrier wall.  Watch for frequent updates on work zone configuration.  Due to the volume of traffic using the alternate route via U.S. 62 between Exit 27 and Exit 40, KYTC engineers recommend a self-detour for traffic between Paducah and Nashville via U.S. 68 and I-69 between I-24 Exit 25 and Cadiz Exit 65 to avoid work zone delays.  Target for project completion is Dec 1, 2024.

Purchase Parkway Extended Work Zone 0 to 21mm
This work zone runs from the Kentucky-Tennessee State Line at Fulton and the U.S. 45/KY 80-Bypass Mayfield Exit 21 interchange in Mayfield.  The work zone includes a 13 ft. maximum load width restriction at mile point 1.3 near Fulton.  On completion late this year, Interstate 69 will be extended along the final 21 miles of the existing parkway. The target completion date for all of the upgrades is Dec 15, 2024.

U.S. 60 at 8.4mm in Marion/Crittenden County
Be prepared for one-lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by an automated signal near the Crittenden County School Complex and hospital just east of Country Club Dr., for construction of a turn lane.  Local access is maintained to the hospital from U.S. 60 on the east side and via Country Club Dr on the west side.  A marked detour is established via KY 981/Old Salem Road and KY 91/West Bellville Street. However, this detour may not be appropriate for oversized loads or trucks pulling low-boy trailers. Watch for notice of several closures along U.S. 60 between 6mm and 8.5mm.  Target completion date is Aug 10.

U.S. 62 in Western McCracken County (NEW)
A work zone for paving runs 4.6 miles along U.S. 62 from the 3.2mm at the KY 286 intersection at Milan Station, extending eastward to the 7.8mm at the McCracken Boulevard/Massac Church Rd intersection.  Motorists should be alert for one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers during daylight hours for about the next 2 weeks.

Tabor Road will be closed to all through traffic in Crittenden Co. on Tue and Wed July 9 & 10, between KY 902 and KY 1943 in Lyon County.
