Lady Marshals pick up Senior Night win over Ballard Memorial

The Lady Marshals celebrated Senior Night on Thursday before taking the field against Ballard Memorial, recognizing their four seniors (L-R) Chloe Coursey, Chevelle Henson, Madyson Morton and Gracelyn Darnall.

Two runs in the first inning were enough for the Lady Marshals to hold off Ballard Memorial 2-1 to pick up a Senior Night win on Thursday. It was the 20th win of the season for the Lady Marshals with just five games left in the regular schedule before tournament play.

The bottom of the first inning scoring began on a single hit by Madyson Morton. A sacrifice by Marin Oakley moved Morton over to second base and a two out fly ball hit by Allicen Harris, who reached on an error, brought Morton in for the first run. Chevelle Henson hit a single out to right field that scored Harris for the early 2-0 lead.

Ballard threatened in the bottom of the fourth, putting two on off of singles by MacLaine Mathis and Serenity Owens. Pitcher Gracelyn Darnall induced a ground out to get the Lady Marshals out of the inning.

Ballard scored a run in the top of the fifth on a steal of home plate by courtesy runner Tessa Holman, running for Aubrey Alexander who hit her second double of the game. Holman advanced to third off a single by Trintiy Williams.

Darnall earned the win, giving up eight hits, one run and striking out five over seven innings.
