Jackson among top hitters in the state

Christian Fellowship’s Lady Eagles went 3-1 in their final four games of the regular season leading up to tonight’s 4th District Tournament semi-final against Calloway County. Two of the wins came over Dawson Springs 15-0 and 17-2. They beat Fort Campbell 10-6 before falling 10-0 to Community Christian Academy in the final regular season game to finish 11-9.

CFS senior, Jayden Jackson, currently ranks third in the state among hitting leaders with a batting average of .694 over 20 games. Jackson has hit eight doubles, four triples and four home runs among her 43 hits. She ranks 15th in slugging percentage with 1.145 and is on track to surpass the state’s record for batting average (.709) and career average (.560).

Both wins over Dawson Springs were decided in three innings. They had 11 hits in the 15-0 win, led by Jayden Jackson who was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, triple, home run and drove in four runs. Cori Hood was also perfect at the plate with three hits that included a double and triple along with four RBIs.

Jackson gave up one hit and no runs, striking out five in the win.

Gracie Howard, Kyndal Owen and Renee Shields all hit doubles in the Lady Eagles 17-2 win in the second game of their double-header against Dawson Springs. Howard drove in four runs and Owen brought in three. Over three innings, Jayden Jackson allowed two runs on three hits, striking out four to earn the win.

The Lady Eagles had 10 hits in their 10-6 win over Fort Campbell. Jayden Jackson hit a double that brought in two runs in the bottom of the second inning for a 4-0 lead after Gracie Howard and Cori Hood each hit RBI singles. A run scored when Renee Shields hit a ground ball out and the lead grew to 7-0 on a 2-run single hit by Lily Burnett.

Fort Campbell got on the board with a run in the top of the third but another run scored by Rhema Howard in the fourth kept the Lady Eagles lead at seven. A 5-run top of the fifth by Fort Campbell trimmed the CFS lead to 8-6 but the Lady Eagles answered with two more runs in the bottom of the inning. Both runs coming across the plate following ground outs hit by Elizabeth Dunning and Shields.

Jackson gave up six runs on nine hits, striking out four over seven innings.

The regular season wrapped up for the Lady Eagles on a 10-0 loss to Community Christian. The Lady Warriors led 6-0 after six innings and put the game away with a 4-run seventh. The Lady Eagles had three hits in the loss from Jayden Jackson, Elizabeth Dunning and Kyndal Owen.

Alyssa Knight had three hits and drove in two runs for CCA. Addie Arnet and Myra Peeler hit doubles in the 13-hit win. Peeler finished with four RBIs and earned the win from the circle, striking out three and giving up three hits.
