Nikki Rhein, Marshall County Extension Agriculture Agent

Do you like to help people, continuously keep learning, have fun and have a love for gardening? Then you should become a Master Gardener Volunteer! The Marshall County Extension Office is having a Master Gardener class this fall. The Marshall Master Gardener Association is a volunteer organization that helps the Extension Office reach more people with quality-research based horticulture information.

What do Marshall Master Gardeners do? They do activities like offer gardening classes to the community, assist with community projects, host their annual plant sale fundraiser, provide scholarships for agriculture students, organize the Jr. Master Gardener program, raise vegetables for food insecure families, go on educational trips and much more!

The class will start with a mandatory informational night on Sept. 1st at 5:30 pm. The classes will be on most Thursday nights from Sept. 1st through Dec. 8th. Course topics include vegetable gardening, insects, plant pathology, soils, organics, lawn care, propagation and much more. The class fee is $75 and includes your book, t-shirt, name badge and hat. Once the course and preliminary volunteer hours are complete, participants will earn the prestigious title of Master Gardener Volunteer! A minimum of 15 participants is necessary to have a class. To receive more information or to register for the class contact the Marshall County Extension Office at 270-527-3285.
