Marshals 4-peat as 4th District champs

The Marshals beat Calloway County 9-1 to win their fourth consecutive 4th District tournament.

With Tuesday’s 9-1 win, the Marshals earned their fourth straight 4th District title and it was the fifth consecutive season they have played Calloway County in the championship game.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Marshals put the first runs on the board after Maddox Cope reached on an error and Conner Mannon drew a walk. With one out, Ethan Landis hit a home run and the Marshals led 3-0.

They added two more runs in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. Cope and Mannon scoring on an error and single by Landis.

The lead stretched to 9-0 in the fifth. An inning that began on hits by Evan Oakley and Jace Driver. Wilson Shadowen, courtesy runner for Oakley, scored on a Reese Oakley single and Cope hit a double to drive in three runs.

Conner Lockhart drove in Gage Bazzell who reached base on a walk, in the bottom of the sixth for the Lakers only run of the night.

Evan Oakley pitched the first five innings to earn the win, striking out seven, allowing four hits and zero runs. Reese Oakley finished out the final two innings, allowing one hit, one run with one strike out.

Leading at the plate, Landis went 2-for-4 with a home run and batted in four runs and Cope’s double that brought in three runs.

Evan Oakley, Ethan Landis, Chase Hayden and Alex Staples were named to the All-Tournament team.

Both teams move on to next week’s Region 1 Tournament.
