Cancellation of Easter Eggstravaganza Due to COVID-19 Concerns

PADUCAH – Due to the concerns voiced by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention regarding the COVID-19 virus, the City of Paducah Parks & Recreation Department has decided to cancel the 2020 Easter Eggstravaganza. The event was scheduled to be held March 30 in Bob Noble Park.

Parks & Recreation staff made the decision with an abundance of caution noting that the annual event typically attracts a crowd of more than 1000 participants and adults.

Parks & Recreation Director Mark Thompson states, “We do not want to do anything that could tend to exacerbate the possibility of spreading the coronavirus in our community. Bringing more than 1000 of our friends and neighbors together in relatively close quarters for the Easter Eggstravaganza could do just that.”

The Parks & Recreation Department has a plan for the 15,000 candy-filled eggs that would have been used at the annual hunt. The Department will be offering the candy-filled eggs in a free distribution to schools, churches, and non-profit community organizations for use at their smaller events.

Beginning today, representatives of those organizations can call the Parks & Recreation Office at 270-444-8508 to reserve eggs on a first call, first served basis. Eggs can be reserved in batches of 250 up to a maximum of 1000 per organization.

After reservations are completed, Parks & Recreation staff will arrange the day and time for organizations to pick up their reserved bags of eggs.
